Church services come in different forms. In addition to prayer and other types of liturgical celebration, holy mass forms the central highpoint of worship in the Catholic Church. A church service means a service rendered by people to God, but it is much more a service rendered by God to people. God speaks to us in the words of the Bible, and Jesus Christ offers himself up completely to people when He assumes the form of bread and wine. This is not just a symbolic meeting, for at communion the believer receives Jesus Christ Himself.

Jesus gave his life for us and instructed us always to commemorate this when He said: 'Do this in remembrance of me!' He is and remains present among us when He offers Himself to us. He does this in communion with all people who gather around him at His joint table - above and beyond all time and place. For this we give thanks, hence the name 'Eucharist' - 'thanksgiving'.
